Bellydance Classes


We are delighted to offer a suite of weekly classes in a variety of styles of bellydance: Tribal, ATS® and Oriental Style. Our goal is to create a fun learning environment that challenges each student while building strength, confidence and community through dance.  Our classes are taught in 6 week blocks. As each class builds on the movements learned in the previous class we do not offer drop in or trial classes.

Tribal Bellydance Level 1 (Beginners), Tuesdays 6:15-7:30pm

The 6 week beginners course is designed to provide students with a basic vocabulary of bellydance movements.  We will be teaching and drilling core movements found in all bellydance styles as well as some combinations and the unique posture specific to tribal bellydance.  Students will be equipped with the ability to lead and follow the basic movements through improvised dance. 

Each 6 week course will focus on a different movement set.

Tribal Bellydance Level 2 (Improvers / Intermediate class), Tuesdays 7.45pm – 9.00pm

This ongoing course is designed for students who have already completed at least 6 months -  1 year of bellydance classes. Each course focuses on a different topic, including improvisation, choreography, tribal fusion drilling, and props. Students are encouraged to identify topics they would like to work on, in order to participate in their own learning process. Students are also given an opportunity to perform as part of Suadela Bellydance Student Troupe.  

It is strongly recommended that students enrolled in Level 2 also enroll in Level 1 in order to refine their technique.

ATS® Classes (Mixed Level), Thursdays 7.30pm – 8.45pm

ATS® short for American Tribal Style®, was created in the 1990s' by Carolena Nericcio-Bohlman director of FatChanceBellydance® the style combines different influences such as Indian dance, Egyptian bellydance or Flamenco, the format is based on group improvisation using a vocabulary of steps.

Oriental Classes (Mixed Level), Thursdays 6.00 - 7.15pm

The oriental belly dance course is designed for students who are interested in oriental or classical belly dance. Students will be taught belly dance core techniques and choreographies of different styles. The level of technique and combinations and choreographies will be upgraded in the following block. This course will combine elements in ballet, fitness in order for better preparing dancers' bodies as mature dancers. Besides dancing techniques, this course will also introduce into belly dance culture including rhythm, costume and how to recognize musics for making your own choreographies.

The whole course not only aims to teach students about Bellydance movements, but also leads them to be more aware of their bodies to maintain health and positiveness. The inspirations from the course will enable students to express themselves by using their body language as a dancer and always be happy, healthy and a self-styled dancer.

    • ATS & Oriental (2 x Thursday night classes) - €100
  • We do not offer drop in classes to new students, but students enrolled in Level 2 are welcome to do drop in classes in Level 1 at €10 per class.

COURSE LOCATION: Classes are held in The Olympic Karate Club.  The Olympic Karate Club is located at 83 Shandon Street approximately half way up on the left hand side.  

Directions: From the city center, find your way to the bottom of Shandon St, walk up the hill and about half way up a few doors after the pharmacy you'll see a brown door.  Walk on up the steps and we'll see you in the first studio on the left.  Changing rooms are provided. 

Street parking only.

WHAT DO YOU NEED? Wear loose fitting comfortable clothing that you can move around in, we find yoga and harem pants the best. You're more than welcome to dress it up a bit if you want, just keep in mind you need to be free to move. Hip scarves will be provided, but students are more than welcome to bring their own. We generally dance barefoot, but if you need shoes keep them to specific dance shoes or runners. Bring a bottle of water.

Please note that all bookings including security deposits or amounts paid in full are non-refundable unless the event is cancelled by the organisers, Briona Ryng, Jane Heffernan, Isabelle Bidou & Dawn Wang. The organiser is not responsible for sudden illness, adverse weather conditions and resulting or any transport delays and difficulties, acts of god, immigration or other circumstances which may result in participants being unable to attend pre-booked workshops, classes, events and shows. 

By booking you agree that all involved parties are irresponsible of any injuries or losses. You also agree that you are physically and medically fit to participate in these classes. Teachers and venues cannot be held liable for any of the aforementioned occurrences to participants at classes.

In the event of venue changes you will be informed, however no refunds will become applicable.
